As I have been thinking about this next year and have been praying about what God would me do in regards to my daily devotions, I have felt really drawn to Psalms and Proverbs. I also wanted to do some New Testament reading in addition to that so my plan is to read through Psalms and Proverbs every month and to join some friends of mine in a Facebook study as they read through the New Testament over the course of the year. With Psalms I formulated a plan where I read through 5 chapters every day with Psalm 119 only being read on the months that have 31 days and that will be the 31st day reading. With Proverbs, that was easy...there are 30 chapters so one chapter per day. I just really need to learn to how to wait on the Lord and throughout Psalms we read how David waited patiently on the Lord and if we need to make changes then we really should spend time learning how others made those changes too. Proverbs is full of the wisdom I need every day. I am looking forward to what God is going to teach me through not only Psalms and Proverbs, but also through the New Testament as well. All that being said, I am also striving to spend more time just reading in general. We have Sunday School books and couples Bible study books that we are going through presently, so that reading will continue for me but I also have been desiring to read other books as well so I am adding the book A Woman Who Reflects the Heart of Jesus by Elizabeth George as well as the book I Want God by Lisa Whittle. The first book, A Woman Who Reflects the Heart of Jesus, will be one that I think I will read a chapter daily for a few months as it has 30 chapters so I could go through it in a month and with books like this, it takes a few times reading them for it all to sink in. I plan to read that book several times this year. The latter book, I Want God, is actually a book that I friend of mine is using in an online group and we are taking the whole year to go through that book. It should be fun to have others input as we work together on that one.
Yes, that seems like a lot, but I love to read and really haven't made much time to do so the past several years. It is always good to have goals to help us press towards that mark of a higher calling. I know that sometimes plans change so I am prepared to be flexible as well.
