Embrace the Weakness

1 Corinthians 1:27-31 (NIV)
27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

My friend, Diane, posted this passage on her Facebook page today.  She went on to comment with the following: : "God "chooses" this. It is not that He takes what is left. It is deliberate that He chooses us in our weakness to be a trophy of a degree of strength which can be obtained no other way but through His enabling. Do not despise weakness. Seek His purpose in it."  This got me thinking about myself when it comes this passage.  It takes a lot of energy to despise one's weakness...have you ever noticed that? When we embrace our weakness and let the Lord be our strength, it take so much less out of us than when we sit around pouting about our weaknesses.   At least that is what I have noticed about the times I despise verses the times I surrender. God's work done God's way brings strength we never knew we had in us!  This definitely applies to eating the way God intends for us to eat.  Change is never easy but if God is urging me to change, I need to realize my weaknesses and embrace them.  Instead of opening a huge bag of chips and devouring them to comfort a hurt in my life, I need to open my Bible and think on the things God would have me think on.  It takes discipline to make the right choices.  I have to make the right choice even if I don't FEEL like making the right choice.  Beside, eating the entire bag of chips would only add to the struggle in the long run.  That is what I mean by it takes so much more energy...now not only do I have to get back on track, I have to burn the extra calories and have set myself back a few days in the weight loss process.  If I had just walked in obedience in the first place, I would have let the Lord be my strength and comfort.  When I have finally achieved the goal before me, I can give Christ the glory.  I can boast in what He did for me.
