My doctor has recently encouraged me to reduce stress. With all that has been going on in the parenting department and with my folks medical challenges plus factor in just being a wife and very involved with my church family, it has definitely been a stressful few years. Recently it has manifested itself with a heart condition I was born with having more frequent episodes, causing me some concern plus it has been rare for me to get more than 3 - 4 hours of sleep at night. My doctor is concerned for my well being and has recommended adding a med to my daily meds to help me cope with stress. Part of me wants to try this option and yet the other part of me is not at peace with that option yet. I confided in a a couple friends who have had their share of challenges for their input as to what would possibly be better options and wouldn't allow for me to get addicted and dependent on medications to meet daily challenges. My friend Diane suggested I try essential oils, gave me reasons why, as well as suggesting 2 to start with. I made some adjustments to our budget so that I could order from a company that she knows has pure essential oils and a reasonable cost. They came this past Saturday. Saturday and Sunday night before bed, my hubby has been gracious enough to massage my back, legs, and arms with a small amount of these essential oils (a mixture of lavender and peppermint). The past two nights I have slept better than I have in literally a year or better. It is such an amazing feeling to be refreshed...I had forgotten what they felt like. Getting better sleep has helped me the past 2 days to handle stressful situations that have come up in a more positive way. I didn't mix all of the essential oils together because my friend said that the peppermint oil can help with headaches when rubbed on the temples and the lavender makes a great oil to use on your feet. I must admit I was hesitant to try this option, but so far I am glad I did. I meet with my doctor again this Thursday morning and I know he is going to want to know what I have decided on concerning medication. I know that some people really do need them...and I may be one of those people. But for now, I am going to continue to give my challenges to my God, spend time in prayer, and using the essential oils to see if they continue to help before trying medications.
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. ~Hebrews 10:35-36
Thankful for the encouragement of having God's Word to guide me as well as for the encouragement of friends.
