Rest in the Promises, Don't Just Stand

This past week has been interesting.  It hasn't been easy by any means but I won't bore you with details.  I just want to share a promise that God has renewed in my heart.  It is in the form of a hymn.  I haven't posted much about hymns lately, but rest assured, God is still giving them to me on an as needed, well, much needed basis.  This morning I woke up with the words to Holy Holy Holy in my heart.  I love it when I wake up with a hymn.  It is like God's way of reminding me to "sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress."  Psalm 59:16.  So, here are the words I woke up with this morning:

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!

Now, I have had some pretty early mornings....not by choice, but because I just can't stay asleep.  So I pray for others during that time.  I check email and FB from my Kindle so that I can still stay in bed. (John is a very sound sleeper, thankfully.)  I quote hymns.  I quote Scripture.  You get the idea.  If I could sing out loud without waking anyone, I would.  But I can sing and make melody in my heart, right?

Then this afternoon as I conversing with God (I don't just have prayer time, I converse with God pretty much all day as if I were having a conversation with a friend) John 15:5 came to mind:

"I am the vine, ye are the branches:  He that abideth in me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit:  for without me ye can do nothing."

That was followed immediately by the words to the hymn Constantly Abiding:

There's a peace in my heart that the world never gave,
A peace it cannot take away;
Though the trials of life may surround like a cloud,
I've a peace that has come here to stay!

Chorus
Constantly abiding, Jesus is mine;
Constantly abiding, rapture divine;
He never leaves me lonely, whispers, O so kind:
"I will never leave thee," Jesus is mine.

What a precious promise to know that Jesus whispers patiently "Ruth, I love you.  I will never leave you.  Rest right here with Me."

As for my weigh in for this week.  I am still at plateau.  Counting it all joy.
