Who Are You Focusing On?

This morning my son was upset over Ted Cruz  dropping out of the race and provided an opportunity to share with my son some promises in Scripture.  As I thought about this, I was reminded that as a Christian, for me the battle isn't about who is going to be the next president.  While it is important for me to care about where society is politically, it isn't where the final prize lies.  The battle is about who has my heart.  While I am not impressed with how this political adventure is turning out, I know that God is still ultimately in control.  Even though it seems conservative values are losing ground creating a need for me to make the hard choices, knowing the majority won't agree with where I stand, it has always been this way from the beginning and God will continue to be faithful to those who choose to walk obedient to Him. All God asks is this: "If you love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15)  The real challenge is to remain obedient to His word when it will mean facing opposition and consequences for remaining obedient to His Word.  As a Christian I know how this will play out (His Word it truth) and my desire is to seek the Lord and become strong enough to endure the race until glory.  God promises to use the weak things of this world to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27). God never said it would be easy because "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:12).  God does not promise it will be easy, but it will be worth it when we are no longer having to battle the things on earth and hear "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Matthew 25:21)
